Taksim Square (Turkish: Taksim Meydani) is a major shopping, tourist and leisure district situated in the European part of Istanbul.
One can find many nice restaurants, shops and hotels in the area.
Many people believe it is the heart of modern Istanbul with major network stationand bus services to many districts of Istanbul.
At Taksim square is the Monument of Republic (Cumhuriyet Aniti) crafted by the famous Italian sculptor Pietro Canonica in 1928. The monument was erected to commemorate the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, following the Turkish War of Independence.
