So far WU games has been held in the 3 continent and in 16 different countries.Firts Universiade was held for the firts time in Chamonix in 1960.Most gold medal winning country in the games were USSR.
Games which were held in France in 1960 games were held in 5 branches.Up till now Italy was the country with hosting the games (5) times.Following Italy was Czech Republic with (3) times,Austria and Hungary (2),Bulgaria (2), Poland (2), Spain,U.S.A,China,Finland,France,Japan,Sweden,Korea and Slovakia (1).Games were held 20 times in Europe,3 times in Asia and once in America.Most participation in the games was with 50 Austria 2005. 2007 Italy –Turin games hosted the highest number of ahtletes which was 2500.
ERZURUM WILL BREAK A RECORD
Erzurum will be hosting 58 countries with nearly 3 thousand athletes in the games.26th WU games will be held in Slovenia-Maribor and the 27th WU is going to be held in Spain-Granada in 2015.
NUMBER OF MEDALS
So far USSR was the most successful country in the Universiade games which has been held up to 2011. USSR has gained 103 gold, 92 silver and 67 bronze medals.Where as Russia gained 88 gold,74 silver and 85 bronze medals.
